Training

The State Resource Center has been deeply involved in developing a better understanding on haw and what can be the contributions of a better training in building the capacity of the field functionaries. It has strived to develop the understanding on contributions of effective training in the development field. This has lead it to work for developing skills of the trainees, promoting positive attitudinal changes and analytical thinking. A variety of training programs have been initiated in this regard. There has been a large change in the variety of programs that had been taken up for adult literacy and SRC has been supported all these efforts by accordingly redesigning its training roles. The major steps in this regard are given below:

Training Brief
The trainings in State Resource Center have been one of the important technical supports that the organization has extended in the literacy programs. In this long span of 15 years the SRC has supported a large variety of literacy programs. The literacy programs have seen too many changes in the last two decades; with change in the ‘approach’ of literacy programs the delivery models of support from SRC also changed. In order to get an overview of the training supports extended by the SRC so far let us look at the changes in the approaches and the related changes in the support.
When SRC came into existence i.e. August 1985 the Center Based Program was in operation in the country and the state. This center-based program was also known as ‘Rural Functional Literacy Project’. Under this program there were projects of 300 centers and there were also ‘Nagrik Shiksha Pariyojana’ which had 100 centers. These projects were implemented by a full-timer structure of functionaries. This structure consisted of a Project Officer, Assistant Project Officer, Supervisors and Instructor. The SRC provided training support basically at two levels in this center-based program i.e. the project and Assistant Project Officers and the Supervisors trainings. The need of training under the program was different from what it is today, besides the situations were also different and this definitely affected the training strategy of SRC.
The Government ran the programs and so the attitude of functionaries at both the levels was also different and they were not at all motivated towards work, the attitude was not that of a developmental worker but of a government functionary.

Training pattern
The SRC took up the trainings of these functionaries all over the Madhya Pradesh. The trainings taken up for them were specially designed with respect to their roles and responsibilities in the program. The training team of SRC was limited and so it was necessary that the trainings were decentralized and this required SRC training team to go down to the districts and impart training.

Organization of training
The respective district did the organization of trainings. The SRC took up the responsibility of technical and academic support in these trainings. There was no say on who the trainees will be as the trainings organized were for different levels of functionaries.

Training Content
The training content was framed by the SRC looking to the roles and responsibilities of the functionaries and this was in consultation with the respective department experts. While for the training of second level of functionaries SRC took up the initial training and this was followed by ‘performance appraisal’ in the field, through extensive monitoring. Similarly, for the training of instructors the organization also took up ‘impact evaluation studies’ that was based on their field performance.
The training content was specially designed looking to the roles and responsibilities of the trainees and feedback was also obtained from the concerned agencies.

Training Materials
The training materials were specially designed for each level of training and specific materials were developed whenever there was a special training need from the field. The training materials were simplified and used for the lower levels of trainings. Effort was to have rich and variety of materials, which will serve as reference material for future.
The total no of trainings conducted were nearly 300 in which the number of various trainees covered was nearly 9500
